So I just recently downloaded Laura Bow The Colonel's Bequest from Abandonia, but there's just one problem: the sound and music won't work, no matter what I do with my pc and speaker settings. Is there any way to fix this?

The usual solution to playing old DOS games on a moder PC is to use a program called DOSBox. It's available for free from the project website, but it takes a little bit of configuring. Mostly it consists of two parts:

1) Telling it where to find the game

When DOSBox starts up, you'll see a DOS prompt with some instructions. It'll tell you how to "mount" a drive. A simple instruction like:

> mount c C:\path\to\your\dos\games
> c:

should do the trick to get you where you need to be.

2) Speeding it up a bit

Generally, DOSBox will try to run at the best speed it thinks your computer can handle. That doesn't usually work for me. So I tend to modify the config file by looking for the line that starts with "cycles=". I change it so it reads:

cycles=fixed 12000

There is a keyboard shortcut that will let you fine tune the cycles as you play, but I forget what it is. It'll tell you on the start screen when you open DOSBox.
